Hello to all-
Grannie is bushed! I need a few days rest.
I hosted a Quilt Show in my home and entertained 14 women.  I even put up pix of my Christmas quilting projects on the laundry room door. I exhibited the quilts on the dining room table and everyone stood around  asking questions  etc. They sat down between displays. Of course I shared some interesting  stories
about each one.  I also invited some neighbors - so it was a very interesting group. A sister left a little gift & card before she left with  this comment:'Old quilters never die for they have taken a stitch in time' - Lovely, but ambiguous, I'd say!
Happy Hallowe'en to all the Trick or Treaters.

Happenings

Just thought I would include a few pictures of notable events of family members visiting us in Edmonton. I will post more later.
School has started again, I remember how excited I was when I was a school marm wondering how the new year would go and if I would be teaching some 'famous' person.
Hope you enjoy the year - study hard, you are mapping your own future.

Sharing our Companionship Reading

Hello to all -
It is a rainy morning & we are getting ready to go to Church. I have the sound of the hymns in the background (courtesy of the tapes Karyn gave me years ago) so there a lovely atmosphere in our home. Something I'd like to share with you from our companionship study that really registered with me is the following: "We should cultivate a meek, quiet & peaceable spirit.(Joseph Smith)......'The meek shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace (Psalms 37:11)' ....the meek person is one who controls his or her emotions, one who demonstrates poise under pressure and provocation, and one who is also strong and valiant. ...Only the meek, those who have dispelled the noise within themselves, will know peace forever more. The Lord's promise is sure: 'Learn of me, listen to my words, walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me'. (D/C 19:23)" ...............

Good Luck to all.

Recipe

I have been diagnosed with SHINGLES so am taking some powerful drugs. When I have moments of rationally I think of easy tasks I can perform. My new recipe that I found using rhubarb has been praised everytime I serve it. I was asked to share it on my blog. Here goes:

Bumbleberry Crisp

**Base **Sauce

1 cup flour 3/4 cup sugar

1 cup rolled oats 2 Tbsps cornstarch

3/4 cup brown sugar 1 cup cold water

1/2 tsp cinnamon & nutmeg 1 tsp grated orange rind

1/2 cup butter - melted

**Filling:

1 1/2 cup rhubarb, 1 cup sliced strawberries, 1 cup sliced apple, 1 cup blueberries

**Method:

In bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon & nutmeg

Stir in butter

Press 1/2 mixture over bottom of greased 9” square cake pan

**Sauce:

In small saucepan, combine sugar with cornstarch & whisk in water & orange rind until smooth

Bring to boil & reduce heat to medium low & cook 5 min more until thickened & clear, whisking constantly

**Filling:

In bowl toss together fruits & arrange over base

Pour sauce over top & sprinkle with remaining flour mixture

Bake 350°....50 - 60 mins or until fruit is tender & topping golden

Serve warm with ice cream/whipping cream

Los Abuelos posting for the month of May

Hello to all
We have had a memorable month of May.
The highlight was the wedding of Aaron and Patti in Regina SK at the Hotel Saskatchewan. We travelled by Greyhound and Saskatchewan Transportation Company. A ten-hour ride with stops here and there. I had never seen the country between Saskatoon and Regina so it was a treat forme.
We were happy to be present at the wedding. The handsome groom and beautiful bride made us all feel welcome. The ceremony was very nice and the Marriage Commissionaire performed a good job. The dinner was lovely, and the tributes very enjoyable. The entertainment by the Ukrainian dancers was very apropos especially since Aaron is one-quarter Ukrainian - (that comes from my side of the family) The dance following was amusing to watch - I tried to include pictures showing the involovement of so many of the family - great exhibition.
Another highlight on Sunday morning was the blessing of Peter Royer Young by his father and many of the Priesthood participating. It was a special spiritual occasion. Thanks Nora, for explaining the choice of names you both chose for your new son.
Still another highlight of the month was Hugo's birthday - he is now a bonafide TEENAGER!
And on the same day his Uncle John celebrated a milestone in his life - he turned 50! It is my habit of writing each of our children a special letter to them recounting the event of their birth - so I had to include his siblings and the role they played in his early years. It was a fun reminiscence for me. And Happy birthday Maddy, Sydney.
We now have a big job to do planting our flowers in the various pots - it has been the coldest month on record - we have waited a long while to be able to do this job.
I must add I posted about 10 pix and I did not get them placed very well - but I hope you find them interesting.
Love to all

Timely Advice

Hello -
After visiting with many of you at wedding receptions I am quite impressed with how you conduct yourselves. Grandpa & I do COMPANIONSHIP STUDY every morning from a book "Come, Listen to a Prophet's Voice'
- This impressed me very much. Hope you enjoy it: (Matt 5:21-22)
The phrase 'without a cause' in the KJV is omitted from many of the oldest biblical manuscripts and from the Savior's sermon to the Nephites at the Temple Bountiful. Anger, a secondary emotion and a reactionary one, is not an acceptable emotion. It is not inspired of God, does not build relationships, and seldom solves problems. Rather, it builds walls between people, nurtures resentments, and stifles the flow of the pure love of Christ. President David O McKay declared:'Never must there be expressed in an LDS-home an oath, a condemnatory term, an expression of anger & jealousy or hatred. Control it! Do not express it! You do what you can to produce peace & harmony, no matter what you may suffer. The Savior set the example. He was always calm, always controlled, radiating something which people could feel as they passed'
I'm working on it!!
