Ellis Pond

Seattle Holiday

Seattle 'Holiday'

Hello to all-
We spent TWO weeks in Seattle 'looking after' Rachel or better stated she looked after us. She was very cooperative & was a gracious hostess. We went to a movie HAIRSPRAY & she had to hold out her arm for Grannie to have someone to cling to as my leg was giving trouble. It was nice to meet her friends. We enjoyed sitting on the deck looking at Lake Washington & enjoying the sunshine in the afternoon. The mornings were cloudy or foggy or not conducive to hanging out. Most afternoons were lovely. We took walks to the library & Ellis Pond where we could sit and watch the ducks. We did a bit of reading & ofcourse I brought some hand applique to keep me busy. I cooked the meals & Grandpa tidied up so we certainly were not overworked.
When Coleen & Oj returned home they took us for luncheon to Ivars & to Olympic Sculpture Park. Drove me to the Tall Girla' Shop - where of course I bought a new outfit. And then as a bonus treated us to the theatre to see'To Kill a Mocking Bird' - very well done.
Now we are home & life is back to the usual - glad we are still useful.
We are looking forward to seeing many of you at Janine's farewell.
"Age is more a matter of how you feel, how you think, & what's going on in your head than what is going on in your feet" Who but President Hinckley could come out with this statement! I am boosted from self-pity when I remember this.
Love to all

september at oeming road

Hello to all -
This is a typical autumn day - sunny, although crisp. We can view our flowers on the deck & in the planters & can see that they are beginning to wither away. We have so enjoyed them - but the seasons change - as do we.
We have done considerable canning & preserving of late. On our walks in the area we found a dolgo crabapple tree just lush with fruit. We each picked 2 buckets & have made apple juice, jam, jelly & sauce. Now I do not miss my crabtree in Calgary since finding this one. Our 2 tomato plants are producing like you wouldnt believe it. I have never seen such huge plants. Grandpa will pick the tomatoes before we leave for Seattle this week & hopefully they will ripen in our absence. Guess well have to can them for winter use. We ate some of our cherry tomatoes & vine-ripened are just delicious.
Last Sunday we hosted a luncheon after Brigham was blessed by his father in the BonnieDoon chapel - where we attended after we were baptized. All we had to do was have the home ready.
Kate arranged a potluck which was great. Guests sat outside on the grass, on the steps, on the deck, & in the living room. The children enjoyed themselves as well as the adults. Karyn & Jim & family came Saturday pm & we were able to have a good visit as well as having Jim see to some of the unfinished tasks about the house. We certainly appreciated that.
September is a big month for birthdays & anniversaries. we wish you well on these dates - we will be in Seattle for 2 weeks looking after Rachel while her parents are in Europe. Great place for a holiday for us.
Do keep in touch - we love your news. Im glad , Spencer, you got positive comments on your quilt made for you when you returned from your mission. It was a joy to make.
Love to all
